  Arcand’s latest works only because it refuses to take its subject seriously, much to the bafflement of critics and commentators. The film is a frothy, lighthearted faux-biopic about the rise and fall of a beautiful 18-year-old supermodel, and the men who trip over themselves to destroy their lives over her. Told entirely as a patchwork of pretend press coverage, Arcand proves that meditations on the nature of media can be self-reflexive without being arty and boring.
