Havre de grâce

Disc review

Almost two years after setting sails on an electro pop cruise with Belmundo Regal, local iconoclast rap troupe Radio Radio stalls on Havre de grâce, a bogged down third LP. Surely the boldest CD of the foursome-turned-trio’s discography, it strays further away from hip-hop conventions in favour of chillwave-powered, cosmos-gazing, jazz-fuelled bluesy beats. Although we appreciate when a rap crew takes the risk of reinventing itself, Havre de grâce unfortunately goes around in circles. Potential hits are fewer and weaker than usual, and the album’s pacing is incredibly loose, uneven and stifling. Gorillaz fans should lend an ear, though.
