On the strength of their super-fun, super-catchy radio and web hits Shut Up and Let Me Go, That’s Not My Name and Great DJ, The Ting Tings were one of the breakout stars of 2008-2009, their debut We Started Nothing selling two million-plus worldwide. And then, radio silence. Well, we did hear about what happened with what was supposed to be their sophomore, Kunt, which they were working on in Germany with superstar producer Calvin Harris – Harris went on to produce Rihanna’s biggest hit to date and then suddenly the Eurodance sound they had been creating was everywhere, so they scrapped the whole thing, moved to Spain and started again from scratch. Sounds From Nowheresville is the result. But frankly, it’s a sad mishmash of an album, lacking cohesion, inventiveness and, most crucially, any of the fun that made We Started Nothing such an irresistible listen in the first place. Name it Sounds From Lamesville instead.
