On this surprisingly enjoyable album, Izzat Majeed and the Sachal Studios Orchestra put a Hindustani spin on such jazz and bossa nova standards as The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Take Five, Antônio Carlos Jobim’s The Girl From Ipanema and Burt Bacharach’s This Guy’s in Love With You, reinventing them with arrangements of sitar, tabla, sarod, ghungroos, santoor and other instruments associated with Indian and Pakistani classical music. This is a bit of a novelty album, sure, but it’s too fun a listen to hold that against it.
