I stumbled across Joseph O’Connell’s Elephant Micah project – himself and a revolving cast of Indiana side-players – circa the early 2000s and was quietly floored to rediscover his amazing songsmithing traditions with Louder Than Thou, by some counts his 13th album in the last decade. O’Connell (vox, guitar) drops his soft bombs both alone and with a few choice friends (sax, keys, beats, harmonium, fiddle), fabricating a simply complex avant-folk and minimal pop mystery tour of romance, the personal, loss, life and human examinations of the natural and fabricated worlds. Please do the legwork and track down this wonderful artist.
