ERA 9

Disc review

Here is a thoroughly old-fashioned local hard rock band, the kind you wouldn’t be too surprised to see on a double bill with Jonas & The Massive Attraction. Their self-titled debut album is a predictable but not unenjoyable throwback to the glory days of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and Iron Maiden. Guitarists Jona DhePaganon and Joe D’Adamo deliver plenty of muscular guitar riffs and blistering solos, backed by the solid rhythm section formed by drummer Marco Leclerc and bassist Eric Maddalena, while Philip Paolino’s vocals soar overhead. Alternating between heavy anthems (Goodnight, Control Freak, etc.) and power ballads (Some May Say, Decrypt, etc.), ERA 9 also flirt with funk (Vice Grip) and prog (Test the Waters), with varying results.
