It used to be that indie rock was all the rage, but it now seems like country, bluegrass and folk are the go-to for new bands. I could be wrong, but I’m thinking that the 2000 Coen brothers film O Brother, Where Art Thou? and its T Bone Burnett-produced, Grammy Award-winning soundtrack might have ignited this newfound appreciation for Americana music. In any case, what we have here is the second LP by a quartet of young Manitoba women with a real talent for singing in harmony and playing fiddle, clawhammer banjo, guitar and acoustic bass. It’s perfectly pleasant, all ten songs of it (including a French ditty, Ma Belle), if not particularly surprising. Can it really be nostalgia when so many groups are playing this kind of music these days?

Sweet Nostalgia
