Shouts

Disc review

Local indie pop rock wunderkind Honheehonhee have finally released Shouts, an impressive first LP. Somewhere between Weezer’s knack for build-ups, Win Butler’s voice range and The Cars’ keyboard-buzzed and saccharine-filled melodies, there’s Montreal’s Honheehonhee. Although the quintet’s music is akin to numerous other projects (Rooftop Archipelagos will please fans of both The National and The Lovely Feathers, while Jumpstart My Heart mixes David Byrne franticness with epic Arcade Fire choruses), Honheehonhee do have personality and brings a much needed jolt during the cold season. While the collective could stray further away to produce even more distinct songs (and their ubiquitous "woah, woah, woah" sing-along can get irritating), Honheehonhee set the bar pretty high.
