Tigre et diesel

Disc review

Local guitar slinger Olivier Langevin goes "pop" on Tigre et diesel, the third album of his Galaxie project that just made this year’s Polaris Music Prize Long List. "Pop" because Galaxie’s electro elements, that were usually only accompanying their stoner rock songs, take centre stage on Langevin’s latest. First single Piste 1, a fist-pumping dance-rock anthem, is a great example of Galaxie’s new musical blend that should please fans of bands like We Are Wolves and The Faint. "Pop" with quotations marks too, because, techno mangling aside, Tigre et diesel remains a boisterous rock album comparable to the work of Danko Jones and Queens Of The Stone Age. Langevin’s lyrics are still as cryptic as possible, but are also more light-hearted than on Le Temps au point mort, Galaxie’s brooding second album.
