Big Dogz

Disc review

It would have been easy to crucify Nazareth for being those born-again-and-again old dogs rockin’ for God (see When Jesus Comes to Save the World Again) who don’t seem to accept their undying has-been status. Singer Dan McCafferty and bassist Peter Agnew have jammed together since 1968… does Love (still) Hurt after all these years? For Christ’s sake, this is the Scottish band’s 22nd studio album in over four decades. If you go past the atrocious cover art (the worst seen in recent memory), you’ll get a dated (not so) hard rock record, flirting with Americana and blues, where McCafferty sounds like a male Tina Turner (Radio) covering some unreleased AC/DC remix of Robert Palmer or something (Lifeboat). It’s time to go, dawgz.
