Disc review

Madagascar’s Razia Said moved to Gabon at the age of 11, but when she returned to her homeland in 2007, she found an island being devastated by slash-and-burn agriculture and climate change. So she wrote this 10-track protest album incorporating Malagasy sounds and riddims rooted in the region’s strong musical traditions – like Zimbabwe’s lyrical chimurenga-style guitar in the irresistible and uplifting Yoyoyo – to create a very smooth world beat album.
