Collage Light

Disc review

Folky, rocky Charlotte Cornfield is destined for good-to-great things, and new EP Collage Light is a harbinger of that. Opening tracks The Pages and Someday (To the Birds) provide a nice introduction to Cornfield’s breathy, earnest voice. Songs The Colour and Humphrey Bogart show her songwriting skills, and boast excellent lines like "you’re a tear on an airport floor." Haunt of Mine, though, is a problem spot, betraying Cornfield’s youth in a bad way. Essentially that’s the point here: Her ceiling is high, but Cornfield’s still learning. Her missteps, therefore, aren’t mistakes as much as they’re part of the process.
