Disc review

An imperfect Nas album is still a Nas album, so once we get over the presence of some ho-hum beats and some commentary side-tracked by cutesy wordplay, we’re still left with one of rap’s great lyricists ruminating on the complexities of being black in 2008. The slow-burning N.I.*.*.E.R. (The Slave and the Master) does just that and Sly Fox slaps up said network’s insano conservative/racist bias, but it’s not all analysis here: the bombastic Hero and the top-down roll of Make the World Go Round keep things aimed at the bump. The Nas-Busta collabo on Fried Chicken contains some great food-as-lady lines, but ends up weirding me out because they come off sounding like they actually want to fuck a chicken.
