The Dancing Cock Brothers: Dance, cocks, dance!

Dance, cocks, dance!

The improv troupe that loves double entendres

The Dancing Cock Brothers is an improv troupe of singularly good taste. Their knack for bons mots is unrivalled, for example, as is their egalitarian spirit. Just listen to bro Adam Kelly’s description of their upcoming show, Cockey Night in Canada: "It’s going to be nasty to lots of different kinds of people, including Canadians. All in poor taste, of course."

The show is the Dancing Cocks’ fifth, a fact that befittingly hints at that transitional period between youthful insouciance and pubescent jouissance. Both states are of course completely desirable for Cocks, so the troupe is celebrating by inviting Montreal’s most established improv troupe to open for them, The Bionic Yahoos. "They always put out a tight, fast show," says Kelly.

"We’ll be delving into a version of the CBC News with our host Peters Manbridge," Kelly continues, giving me the lowdown on what’s to come. "We’re looking at a typical scene at the gym, with its hot pumping rituals. We’ll look at the complications with a July 1st moving day here in Montreal. And with Superman Returns coming out soon, we decided to unveil our own Montreal superhero, named Emotional Stand-in Rebound Boy."

But, in reference to the title, isn’t there anything about hockey?

"You might say that with Cockey Night in Canada we’re exploring a lot of Canadian themes, and hence the name. Although in truth, it’s totally arbitrary and it sounded funny to us."
