I Want To Tell My Heart To You. But I Cannot Say English

Disc review

This stirring debut from local instrumental outfit, …As The Poets Affirm, manages to say much without uttering a single word. Even without lyrics, these songs sing. Whether it’s with sobering cello, a cascading shimmer of cymbals or some thick plucking of guitar, a variety of moods and emotions are manifested. At times, it’s atmospheric and flighty, then temperamental and imploring.

This CD is only going to find a home with instrumental afficionados who dig moody rhythms with punctuating and building riffs. Otherwise, you can pretty much write this release off. I digged it as did many of my friends but my friends are weird so I doubt that’s good indicator. The CD clips along nicely with a breezy pace but it would have been better served with less production value and stronger build-ups.
