Let Go

Disc review

Clearheaded rock and adult pop for aging punks and grown-up indie kids. Doesn’t sound like much fun, does it? Well, "fun" per se isn’t the reason you’d throw on New York’s Nada Surf. Maybe you just knocked off a 12-hour shift and you’d like something else to carry the mental load for a while. Maybe it’s time to do a little emotional inventory and you need something to kick open the door to your psychological stock room. Or maybe you just like low-key acoustic guitars, starry harmonies, pinpoint vocalizing, writing that speaks to you like a friend and the occasional up-tempo rocker to jump-start your heart. Let Go, their third, is smooth but sapless, pro but unpredictable. (Jamie O’Meara)
